Responsibility means being accountable for your decisions, actions and results. It is implementing strategies with confidence and standards that have been decided upon. It can be fulfilling a contract or owning a risk that was taken in good faith. It includes following through on expectations and holding others accountable for their work. Responsibility is the best friend of integrity. People are always watching conduct and behavior and being responsible is owning those actions. Both professional and personal responsibility contributes to a firm foundation. Being responsible means actively seeking to learn and improve.
As a leader implementing the competency of responsibility it is my job to make sure tasks are completed and my team is meeting goals and metrics. A responsible leader builds trust in the team because they are accountable for their actions and decisions. I implement that skill by communicating with my team regularly and build relationships. I promote the organization vision to keep in line with company values. As the leader I am willing to admit failures and pursue corrective measures to rebuild credibility. I encourage my team to be ethically responsible and I lead by example.
The Artifact I chose for Responsibility is the Team Charter project from PMG 320 Project Management. This Artifact represents the skills needed to complete a project together in the workplace. As a team on this project we had to communicate clearly with each other. We set up a plan for the project and had to effectively manage the tasks and the time it would take to complete the project. We worked together as a team and each member was responsible for their own part of the project. My part in the project was writing the proposal along with revisions and communicating with other team members to finalize the project work product.

The importance of this competency is possessing this skill to use in my personal and professional life. This is part of my Organizational degree program because it has a direct correlation to being in a working environment with colleagues and managers. This was one of the first classes with a big team project. This project helped me to realize how the skills would be used in a work setting. It was filled with many of the usual issues of getting everyone together and some team members turning things in late. It was a great example of how important the skill of Responsibility is in team dynamics.
